Dumb barbell question..

Are the bolts at the end of the sleeves supposed to be fully tightened down or are they used to adjust the spin?

Re: Dumb barbell question..

They should be fully tightened, and the sleeves should still spin freely.

Re: Dumb barbell question..

A little Loctite wouldn't be a bad idea.

Re: Dumb barbell question..

I used to have some REALLY cheap bars that had to be 1/2 a turn loose for the sleeves to spin. Weekly I had to go in and re-tighten each sleeve as they worked loose over the week. Does the barbell have what looks like a big allen wrench-type fitting at the end of the sleeve? If you were looking at the barbell on end.

Re: Dumb barbell question..

Yeah, it's a Fitness Gear brand from Dick's I've had for years. I've been using it off and on since 2005 and never had a problem but I'll still get a wrench and tighten/adjust it. I usually just stick my finger in it and make sure the bolt is at least flush with the hole or evena little tighter. Now that I know it should be fully tight I'll make some more permanent adjustments. I'm ordering a second bar next month and plan to get something a little more durable, but as I said, this one has been fine thus far.

I wouldn't tighten it all the way if tightening it all the way causes the bar to not spin.

Re: Dumb barbell question..

I would put some loctite on it

We had some of these when I first opened my affiliate and the sleeves kept falling off. I put some loctite on and they held for a while.
