Re: Making your own climbing rope for WOD

Bump on this thread. This is going to be awesome. I might head up to Harbor Freight this Friday and buy 100 ft rope!

Found some 3/4" manila rope and was wondering if the above method of makeing a 4 strand sinnet would be approprite for this size of rope.

Re: Making your own climbing rope for WOD

Can someone confirm this for me, it has been a while since I gave up on getting a rope: outside ropes (to be left outside) should be nylon or poly?

Might have jsut found a purposeful use for the surplus spool of braided nylon. Will be trying this out soonest.

Re: Making your own climbing rope for WOD

I tried this in Dec/Jan 08-09. same pictuer, same instruction. After 3 days of trying with several different people all of differing knot skills I got this:

thats right, nothing. Better luck to you guys!

Re: Making your own climbing rope for WOD

I found a local place to purchase a 1 1/2 inch manila rope as suggested in the posts above. Can anyone suggest the proper way to attach the rope to an internal metal support beam?

Re: Making your own climbing rope for WOD

With my experience making this rope, I found that doing an 8 strand braid is better than the four strand braid. All you have to do is follow the directions for the four strand, but use 4 pieces of rope and use two strands for each movement. I found it makes a better rope.
I've made rope out of 1/2 inch manila and 3/8 manila.

If I had to do it again I would buy from here
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-1-2...ht_1896wt_1165 (WFS)
It's the cheapest I've seen.

Re: Making your own climbing rope for WOD

That is who I bought my rope from (they are about 10 miles from my house) and sell it to you guys initially (it has a center strand and is a lot stiffer of a rope than a typical 3 strand rope)... then I found an even cheaper 1.5'" manilla supplier, and better rope to boot sans center strand...

Just got 600 more ft of rope today actually.
