its do not go gentle.... its a line from the old dylan thomas poem. reminds me to stay tough always...

as for the rest i designed them or told my ideas to someone with a better artistic ability.

the flag is sort of a rendetion of " i bleed red, white and blue".

the rooster is to protect me from drowning.

the half sleeve is my representation of death, it branched off from the latin.

the crossed rifle and anchor is a combination of me and my army brother.

and the complicated one is the whale. it represenst power and a connection to the sea, it has a person in the fin to show me on my power trip riding the whale, a salmon in its belly to show im full and content with life, and two eyes in the tail always covering my back.

still more work to go as you all probably feel the same

Re: What Does Your Ink Mean?

Frank - cool idea, hope you meet the right person.........

Just be sure not to fall into the age old trap of getting a name put on you...I was asked by the wife if I'd ever get her name on me....not being one for diplomacy I said no...and proceeded with the "bloke logic" explanation that you never know whats going to happen between us and then I'm left with a tat I dont want......

You can imagine how that went down.

Oh, no, nobody's name would ever go on me except my kids, if I ever have some.

A Filipino spider in memory of my mother, got it on my last birthday and it only was $175. Fixing the tattoo artist's phone definitely gives you major discounts.

This is before all the shading was finished, haven't taken a finished picture of it yet.

Was a custom job and took the artist, Sue, about a day to design and maybe three hours total to complete. Its my first but definitely not my last, and by the way it is on my chest over my heart. What can I say, I'm a momma's boy.

Re: What Does Your Ink Mean?

I have something very similar to my avatar on my left shoulder blade. The caduceus represents my training in medicine. I chose that over the rod of asclepius (traditionally, the true symbol of medicine) since it also represents my involvement with military medicine and the staff of Hermes and the wings suggest speed.

The Air Force wings...well, you can probably figure that one out.

The tattoo is done in all black, but with lots of shading, especially the wings on the staff. The snakes' eyes are white. I designed the tattoo myself and plan on getting inked one or two more times in the next month or two, again of my design.

It was originally a small tribal design, then I added to it, and put the kanji "bushi" (soldier/warrior) in the middle

Part of my left half sleeve, its the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse (with the bottom of my regimental cap badge showing). I got it to remind my self that life altering changes, can occur at anytime/anyplace, and that I must not be afraid of it, but rather embrace it or perish.

This shows my first tattoo, the regimental crest of the 48th Highlanders of Canada.

The insides of my right and left forearms "DILEAS GU BRATH" which is my regiments motto, its gaelic for "Faithful Forever".

I have a list in my head of all the tats i plan on getting, basically full arm sleeves and pretty much all of my back.

Someone once commented that they thought I'd been raised by wolves. I took it as a compliment.

Re: What Does Your Ink Mean?

I have a half left sleeve. From bottom to top:

A black bear pawing a fish out of the river in respect to my father (who I love very much but developed the nickname "bear" from being incredibly large and incredibly hairy) for providing for his family for over 30 years no matter how tough things got.

"Veritas et Aequitas" Latin for Truth and Equality/Justice. I'm a huge nerd for Boondock Saints... these are the words tattooed into their trigger fingers in the movie.

St. Jude... the patron saint of hopeless causes... it's a family saint and personally I find it very fitting.

Above the saint is a weeping willow tree, which is a memorial for me of good people I've lost for various reasons.

And then on my back is a tribal sun with a celtic knot, which represents balance and harmony in life for me.
