I attended the olympic lifting clinic in Seattle on Saturday and it was fantastic! I know it's all been said before, but Coach Burgener's passion and enthusiasm are truly infectious. As evidence of this, we were given an hour for lunch, but Coach B basically talked lifting for 7 straight hours, including lunch, with about a 2 minute break. He's definitely the real deal. Plus, it's great to get yelled at by a bald maniac in cammo pants every once in a while, just to make sure you're paying attention. If you ever get the chance...

Also, thanks to Dave Werner and Nancy for hosting and the rest of the staff for helping out and offering 'encouragement'. The Crossfit North facility is like a shrine to 'oldtime' fitness and the setting is unreal. Special thanks also to Michael Street and Carrie for being human guinea pigs at the lunch break. They basically went through a snatch workout while Coach B picked them to pieces in front of whoever wanted to watch. That impromptu demonstration in itself was worth the price of admission as it showed how technical the lift is (Coach B held nothing back in his 'corrections'), while also showing the importance of 'intent', desire, or whatever you want to call that intangible variable that makes you get ****ed off and want to get that lift. Truly amazing. I've gone on enough, but if you ever get the chance...

I just wanted to add to the above that on the day of the clinic my wife dropped me off at Crossfit North and she was amazed by the facility. When we got home to Vancouver she said, 'You know that garage you've been talking about wanting to build in the backyard? I think we should do it and you can use part of it for storage and the rest for working out.' 'Did I hear you correctly?' So, coming soon, Crossfit Jim's Gym...

CFN has access to equipment in the hangar that even Eugene may not have in his garage :-)

Tom,
SWEEET! Everytime some parent rents one of those things for his kid's b-day, I'm always trying to sneak on it for a few tries!

Jim,
I thought it was going to be "Crossfit Gym Butts?"

Jim

I'm glad you were able to make it up and thanks for the kind words.

The thought that we helped inspire a new garage gym makes my day - CFN started in a 10'x20' unheated one car garage with a low roof.

Regards
Dave Werner

Karl, she still thinks I'm nuts...

Ron and Beth, you're right. Gym Butts it is.

Dave, glad I could make your day. Doubt I'll ever have access to an airplane hangar, though, but you never know... As for the clinic, the pleasure was all mine and I'll definitely be back for more.
