Flying in from Jamaica for the CF games

Hello my fellow cross fitters, I have developed an interest in crossfit for just about 3 months now, there however isnt a crossfit gym in Jamaica but i attempt some of the workouts on my own. I like watching the greats perform and as a result i was thinking of flying to California to watch the games in live action. What i wanted to do was to go for the games and stay for the fun activities that L.A has to offer and make it a mini vacation. However i will be travelling alone.

How safe and friendly is California to a lone traveller?

Where are the best places to hang out to meet people and just chill and have fun?

What activities do you suggest i attempt for fun?

Are there any fellow crossfitters who would like to meet and hang out with a chill Jamaican guy?

Let me know your opinions, thanks in advance!

Re: Flying in from Jamaica for the CF games

I think you'll have a great time.
I grew up in California, and lived in SoCal for many years.
There are lots of touristy things to do in the LA area.
The Games are a lot of fun - and they are a great place to meet people. You shouldn't have a problem making friends there, who will be more than happy to show you around or go to dinner with you, etc. during that weekend.
California is a pretty safe place, generally, even for a solo traveler.
Once the Games are over, depending on how long you will have, I'd highly recommend getting out of the LA area, and either heading to Yosemite or taking the coastal route north to the SF Bay area.
Yosemite is one of the most beautiful places in the world - and is full of outdoor activities. If you don't think you'll ever make it back to California, then you should not miss it.
The trip along the California coastline is another "once in a lifetime" type of trips that is something you should try, if Yosemite doesn't catch your fancy. Along the way, there are numerous CF boxes where you can stop in and meet people. Of course, the birthplace of CF was Santa Cruz, and it is home to several boxes, with many of the original CF Firebreathers.
Have a great trip!

Be sure to check distances when planning your itinerary. People visiting the US often find that things are much further apart than they looked on the map.

Enjoy your visit!
