Re: Inspirational Quotes

I've got to put in a recommendation for the crossfitsla.com site (wfs I believe...)
as they've got a whole series of brilliant quotations on there.

Re: Inspirational Quotes

I've been having a hard time motivating my wife to get in to crossfit because what motivates me (metal, yelling, profanity) makes her want to quit. Today we were working on her pullups when this came out:

"You can puke, you can pass out or you can die, but you can't quit."

Re: Inspirational Quotes

University of Michigan Rugby's handout given to freshmen:

Inevitably, you come around to the proposition that if you want to play good rugby - and if you are a true lover of the game, you will want nothing less - then first of all you must get fit.

Ask the Barbarians, who at Twickenham in 1967 yielded two tries in the last three (3) minutes to Lochore’s All Blacks and so lost the game. It was fitness, nothing but fitness.

Fitness is not all in rugby, but there are many times, especially in the last ten or fifteen minutes of, so it seems, every game one plays, when it appears to be almost all.

There are two things about fitness that are amazing: the first is the huge proportion of the human race which never does acquire it; The second is the confidence which develops in the mind of a physically fit man. There’s a stimulating sense of superiority - you can run faster than the next man; you last out the match better than he does - and you acquire the confidence that will drive out mental mistakes... You find out that you are as good as the next man and, maybe a good deal better. It can colour your life.

Any man with an ambition to serve his team well ought to be prepared to run for half an hour on at least four days of the week.

Team spirit, pride in your team, is the vital quality. I recall the night before the Auckland provincial team, of which I was selector and coach, won the Ranfurly Shield from Southland. Wilson Whineray and I had a discussion with the players. Albert Pryor, a famous Maori lock-forward in the Auckland side, afterwards described the event: “Willie,” he said, “stood by the fireplace in the lounge and said, ‘there may come a time in the match when I will ask each one of you for a supreme effort. Can I rely on each of you for that effort?’ He pointed at each player and demanded a reply. When he looked at me I felt as if his eyes were boring holes straight through me. ‘And you Albie, can I rely on you for a supreme effort?’ I said, yes, I would try. Next day we were leading but beginning to fade. Southland began to take charge and we were feeling as if we were to be swept away momentarily. There was a break in play and while standing in the lineout there was Willie going up and down the line. ‘Supreme effort,’ he called out, ‘I want that supreme effort for your teammates.’ I can never make any non-player understand what went on inside of me when I heard those words. All I can say is that if Willie had come up to me and said, ‘Albie, for the sake of the team, I want you to die’...I would have died.”

A "yay, women!" quote:

"What separates an ordinary woman from an extraordinary one? The belief that she is ordinary."
