Bar Swing Muscle Ups ?

hi could some one explain an exercise some one said it was bar swing muscle up, goes likes this, hang from the bar any grip lift your legs up over the bar and finish in a bar muscle position at the top, is this the correct name for this movement, i feel it is only a abs exercise? could it be a bar muscle sub, kipping bar muscle up? i have tried it out and can do sets of 10 controlling the down movement ready for the next rep staying on the bar for all the reps, so any comments thanks.

Re: Bar Swing Muscle Ups ?

I think you're getting confused with a pullover.

Re: Bar Swing Muscle Ups ?

Gymnastics-wise it's called a pullover like brian said.

Definitely not a muscle up. If you want to see muscle ups on a bar just youtube it. Or check my link (sig) I have a video of me doing 10 L-MUs on a bar.

It's really funny how with the explosion of Crossfit any movement from hang to support is some "muscle up" variation...

I've always done pull-overs with a pull-up first...so you pull-up to chin over the bar, then pull yourself around to support...but I guess doing it from the bottom with a swing could be a progression of sorts?

Re: Bar Swing Muscle Ups ?

I've heard them called hip-overs, but hey I've never been involved with competitive gymnastics so the term pullovers works for me too.
Anyway, here's a video that starts with hip-overs/pullovers:

video is work/family safe

With a swing is called a "long hang pullover"

This is not advised to learning a pullover.

It is usually developed the other way around... pullovers first + working on basic proper swings (arch taps) then long hang pullover aka "baby giants" are worked in conjunction with bigger swinging skills.

Re: Bar Swing Muscle Ups ?

A loooong time ago, Hip Pullovers were featured on the main page as something to learn. That's where I first saw them... Too much trouble to google at the moment.

Re: Bar Swing Muscle Ups ?

Aush, as well, it is possible to do a front lever to inverted pullover. Just keep the arms and body straight. Bending the arms or tucking and piking the legs makes it easier, of course.
