'Disenchanted' Couture resigns from UFC

w/f/s: http://sports.espn.go.com/extra/mma/...ory?id=3059019

Interesting considering the recent discussion about payouts in the UFC 76 thread below.

Wow! Hopefully, he'll continue successfully in another organization.

He's going to have a legal battle if he tries to fight elsewhere -- his contract isn't ended with the UFC and it's an exclusive contract, so until the time period on it runs out, he can't fight in other promotions.

Does the contract even allow him to "quit"? Can they compel him to fight? Or is it just an exclusivity agreement?

Wow, that really is too bad. I like Randy and have enjoyed watching him over the years. Itís too bad he had to leave under this cloud. Itís also too bad that there was some friction between him the UFC organization and Dana White. I guess Titoís attitude towards the UFC might be a little more understandable now, IMO. But then again, I am only looking at it as an outside observer.

I don't know the specifics of Randy's contract, but yes, it can be possible to "wait out" a UFC contract and then get back into fighting for a different organization once the time period of the UFC contract has expired. Fighters have done it in the UFC before (Frank Shamrock) and in other organizations as well (Gary Goodridge in Pride).

Well, given the ciscunstances, that's actually great, though unfair to Randy who deserved much better. Randy is the UFC's (and the sport's) greatest fighter so it's very unfortunate that he got the treatment that he got, but as unfortunate as this is, Randy's decision is GREAT FOR HIM AND THE SPORT.

Dana Prick White is a slave driver who treats fighters like roman gladiators and fans like s#!t, and who always has his way, making him ever more arrogant (if that's possible!) and wiling to crush anyone/anything that stands on his way of playing God-of-MMA.

Randy rose above that, which makes perfect sense given his personality, accomplishments, and status in the sport. I am very happy for him and proud of his attitude, and so is the fighting community. Remember, Randy is the sports' greatest ambassador, so who better than him to take a stand against White and the UFC power-structure?!

Randy once again demonstrates why he is celebrated as the sports' greatest.

WAR RANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:notwort h:

TAKE THAT DANA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
