on shift at my FD. One FF hurt his back and now I'm the bad guy...not really, but the NO HOOVER notice was promulgated by the mgt team. We usually play(ed) 1-1 or 2-2 on a raquetball court. Seemed to get a bunch of the less active guys out there as well. Next week I will try to encourage a less reactionary approach, but in the meantime-have you ever been hurt hoovering?}

Well, there was the day that Barry Cooper discovered his "Atomic Hip Throw" that would send a 20lb ball sailing about 1" above the net at barely sub-sonic speeds. The trajectory of that throw nearly always planted it right into my sternum with the force of (in my imagination anyway) a speeding locomotive. I like to tell myself that a lesser man would've caved :biggrin:, but no way I was gonna let those throws hit the ground and give up a point ("men will do anything for points").

No injuries for me...just bruises to the chest and scrapes on the arms. We did have a lady that nearly killed herself though. Barry and I and a couple friends were playing with the 20lb Dynamax and this 40-year old tiny lady came over and wanted to give it a try. First she wanted Barry to throw it to her and we're all like "NOOOOO!!!", so we hand her the ball. She goes to throw it and faceplants in the sand...the ball went about 3 feet.

Oh good times with the Hooverball.

I just had a visual of the look on some unsuspecting guys faces if Kelly or Lynne stopped by a game of Hooverball... "Well sure little lady, you can give it a try.. WHAT THE F*@K!?" :rofl:

Keep in mind that Hooverball was a sport invented by, and participated in, my men in their 40, 50's, and likely 60's. Hoover was not a young man in office. The rules call for a 4-6 lb. ball. What likely got you in trouble was using a bigger ball.

Scott and I are slightly cracked. Well, I am.

You know I only did that because I care about you.

Sounds like fun! Ultimate Frisbee was a great cardio sport in college, but not much for strength. I can see Hooverball taking off in a big way once word gets around.
