Uncle Rhabdo, i.e rhabdomyolisis (Sp?) is when you exert yourself so hard that your muscle membrane breaks down, fooding your bloodstream with potassium and myoglobin. The myoglobin causes your kidneys to fail, which prevents them from filtering out the excess of potassium. The increased levels of toxins in the blood can send you to the emergency room or kill you. I'm sure that there are many holes in my explanation, but I'm not a doctor, I just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so take it for what it's worth.
There's plenty of discussion of it here on the message boards, so search away, if you have the time, and read to your hearts content... |

I had rhabdo once. I had to get some routine labs and they showed that my CK levels were off the charts. It was asymptomatic but I guess I had been doing crossfit for so long my body wasn't effected by the breakdown. Rhabdo is bad juju tho.
