Back Squat Bigger Than Deadlift??

My back Squat is officially higher than my deadlift.

Back Squat 260 - Pretty
Deadlift 255 - UGLY

I deadlift as frequently as I back Squat. I can stand the weight up pretty easily but around 225# my back starts to round.

I've been doing back extensions and deadlifting more often but my back squat keeps going up and my deadlift is staying the same.

What gives?!!?

Re: Back Squat Bigger Than Deadlift??

Check your form and double check your pull off the ground, do you take a deep breathe before the lift? How high do you position your hips etc? Little things like that can make a huge difference in how much more you can lift.

Re: Back Squat Bigger Than Deadlift??

How often do you go for maxes on the respective lifts?

You may be a "squatter;" your body is probably more built for squatting than deadlifting, that could be one reason.

I know your hardcore, so you must have tried about everything thus far. Maybe post a video in digital coaching, or over in Ripp's forum.

Maybe you DL too much? For example, SS has BS every workout, but only one work set of DL every other workout (or less if alternating cleans). See CFWF for another example.

That's usually where the answer is according to Rip and others.

Knowing how hardcore you are that was my first thought too. When I was new to DL's I could deadlift every week. As I progressed I had to change that to every other week (alternating with RDL's.) Now I only do heavy deads once every four weeks. The other DL workout might be a 3x5 or putting ~65%-of-1RM DL's into a WOD. Something like:

Week 1: ME Deads
Week 2: Med-high rep RDL's
Week 3: 3x5 Deads or used in a WOD
Week 4: Low-rep RDL's

Re: Back Squat Bigger Than Deadlift??

I would assume Allison squats deep enough and has enough coaches/others around her to ensure it.

My BS is almost identical to my DL - and that's WITH heavy back rounding on DL. However, my back rounding is nowhere near harmful, painful, etc. I would say I can DL about 50+ pounds less than my normal 1RM if I am paying "strict" attention to my back rounding. When your back rounds, I assume you stop going heavier? Some amount of back rounding is pretty normal for a max effort...most of the times when people stop when the back rounds, they are far, far short of their true 1RM DL.

Either way, both are killer numbers, congrats!
