Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

Just me, but I'd only rack it if I wanted a short rest and didn't want to clean it again, otherwise just in a press grip.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

Hi Ted,

Thanks for the good thoughts - - taking things very carefully. Great food for thought regarding the form on thrusters. I've been taught that using a press position with the hands provides for the least amount of hand movement during the execution of the movement, but this does tend to make it more difficult to keep the heavier weight in line with the plane of body before as you press it overhead.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

I find that if I keep the bar in a tight rack and drive as hard as I can at the top of the front squat I can launch the bar pretty high off my shoulders before my arms have to get involved...this spares me tremendously from wrist pain.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

115# @ 21 reps, never put the bar down but I would say I was using the term 'unbroken' loosely. Wrist pain was nill though.

Well, the honeymoon is over; 135 lbs. is gonna be work.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

Last night, "heavier" beam"

strict=11 reps
thrusters=29 reps.

again like the other night, I'm sure I could have done maybe a few more but I wasn't looking to fail in a set.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

week 3: day 3 'thruster challenge' - 21 reps @ #115 broken(12,9)

i didn't get a chance to do the 3rd day of week 3 until today. i was disappointed that i had to break up the set. i waited too long after pressing and my shoulders cooled down too much. so the pressing portion of the movement was painful which caused me to slow down and i couldn't get into a good rhythm. i need to hit this challenge up earlier in my workouts while i am still really warm.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

Week 3, Day 2 -- 15 reps x 115 lbs (unbroken)

I fell a bit behind, but I'm trying to catch up. Did this set right after my warmup this afternoon and before my WoD.

This felt pretty good, but think I might have some trouble with the 21 reps tomorrow.

Here's my video (WFS).

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

135 # @ 9 reps.

These require concentration, I don't recommend
a conversation with the spouse, especially a smart-
alecky one during this set:

Reps 2 & 8 weren't very 'thrusty' and were more like
front squats with a shoulder press at the finish. #2 I
forgot the leg drive, and #8 I had to catch the load
going forward, - I recommend stone focus.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

I fell off the wagon with my thrusters last week. I'll be making amends by doing fran as rx'd tommorrow.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

I am planning to make Friday's challenge finisher of 21 thrusters @ 135# the start of Phat Fran, I love to hate that workout.

This challenge has had its biggest impact on me from a mental angle; I just don't fear the thruster anymore, it's more like respect now. It's similar to the 100-day burpee challenge.
