I need to thank Crossfit and Catherine Imes for my successful foray into Kettlebell Sport competition. Crossfit definitely gave me the conditioning and toughness to do well in the sport in a very short time. Catherine Imes' coaching has been invaluable; no matter how conditioned or tough I was, I didn't have the technique or training knowledge to complete a 10 minute snatch set with only one hand switch and I always had torn callouses.

To illustrate my point: I started Kettlebell Sport (GS) training prior to employing Catherine as my coach in December 2006. I had been training on my own, but was going nowhere and constantly tearing my callouses. I could barely last four minutes with one hand switch and was struggling to complete 60 reps. I definitely needed help.

July 23, 2007 at the Great Lakes GS meet held in Fenton Michigan after eight months of combining Crossfit and Catherine's coaching: 135 jerks followed by 178 snatches an hour later. I completed the full 10 minutes in both events. (Jerks were added to the women's competition after May 2007). My snatch numbers were a new PR despite the jerk set prior. No callous tears or rips, no banged up forearms, sore lower back or shoulder/elbow issues despite the high number of reps. My total rep score of the combined lifts were high enough to achieve Master of Sport ranking.

I credit both Crossfit and Catherine Imes for my success in kettlebell sport. The benefits of Crossfit are obvious (I don't need to explain that on this forum!), but I do want to recommend Catherine Imes as a coach/instructor if you want learn how to work with kettlebells in a way that is powerful, safe, great for conditioning, allows for longevity by using proper alignment and that won't tear your hands apart. I've attended several of her workshops in addition to having her as my coach; she is an outstanding instructor and an amazing athlete. I can't recommend her enough.

Thank you again to Crossfit and Catherine.

I will second Kelly's recommendation. Catherine has taught a couple of seminars for us in St. Louis. She truly is an elite instructor and KB athlete. What's more, like Kelly, she is gracious and unassuming in spite of her prowess.
