Re: Intermittent fasting / Power Laws / DeVany's EF etc.
Doesn't intermittent fasting go against the rule of eat lots of small meals to keep your metabolism high?
How do you implement intermittent fasting with Zone? How long is a period is considered fasting? I know from my experience, I stay full long periods of time after a bigger meal, and it works better for me than lots of small meals. |

Re: Intermittent fasting / Power Laws / DeVany's EF etc.
What Tyson said. I'm having a hard time squaring Barry Sears recommendations to eat early, balanced, and often, with the IF/EF suggestion of throwing in fasting periods. They seem contradictory.
Thanks, Brent |

![]() You are correct, they are somewhat at odds with each other. Robb recommends a relatively short fast, between 15-18 hours. For example, you may not eat between 6 PM and 10 AM the next morning. That still give you plenty of time for all your meals. Also, eating 2-4 times a day is fine. There's no benefit to more frequent meals. I think Sears recommends more frequent meals because at 40% carbs, you will get hungry and will need to eat to keep blood glucose levels stable. On a lower carb diet, the glycemic load is low enough to avoid the spike and drop between meals. |

I've experimented with fasts between 15-24 hrs and I generally don't find myself getting hungry. My diet is already quite zone/paleo. So if body fat loss is one of my goals... I should probably spice up my zone/paleo with some IF? |

![]() Check out Robb's articles on PM and the IF forum there. I think you can buy the 3-4 he wrote on IF in a single pack. They get into some of the theoretical aspects of why IF might work and some strategies for implementing. It is still very much an experiment of one. Many people have made additional gains (or losses if that's what was desired) after implementing IF. For some it doesn't work, but either way there's no harm. |

Hmmm this is awseome info.
I might give IF a go, i am tryin desperatly to drop 5kgs... It just goes against everything i was previously taught.... eat within an hour of waking to kick start the metabolism etc... ![]() |
