Re: Ideal Crossfit Height

If by "all-round athlete" you mean the best generalist, then I'd say you should look at the CF Games competitors. There's a good mixture of heights represented, but the majority of males were 5'9" to 6' 0", so it's possibly fair to assume that's the "ideal height". Then again, that happens to be the most common height band for men, so statistically you'd expect this group to be the largest anyway.

Looking at it the other way, there were plenty of shorter and taller athletes in the mix, which gives hope to us all since height isn't exactly something you can choose to change...

I think anthropometry has a lot to do with this than just height. I guess technically height is an anthropometric measurement, but its only one and only gives you one piece of the puzzle.

Re: Ideal Crossfit Height

I think this was discussed before.
Basically taller people do well at running and rowing.
Shorter people do well at gymnastics.
Taller people have more muscle mass and are probably going to be stronger if given a fixed weight (e.g. 155# C&J for time). However taller people have to do greater ROM on everything which might give a slight advantage in deadlifts, squats, cleans, etc. for shorter people.

But you'll see exceptions in every sport. Coming to mind off the top of my head.... Theo Fleury (wfs) in hockey. Jim Holloway (wfs) in climbing/gymnastics.

Re: Ideal Crossfit Height

There is no ideal height for crossfit. There is no such thing as ideal.

You must have tribal tats and wear board shorts though...

And be bare-chested. Everyone knows wearing a shirt adds at least 30s to your Fran time.

So true. If you study the attached chart (SFW) you will see what elite CrossFitters have discovered. To achieve a 3 min Fran you must actually wear negative shirt. I will continue my exploration of this phenomenon and report my results to the CF journal.

"Brilliant. That needs to be a t-shirt."

Most ironic post ever.
