how do i get more protein (preferably not meat)?

i'm not a vegetarian, i do eat some meat, but not a lot. i try to buy free range, organic, non-medicated meat but can't always afford it. i try not to buy factory farmed meat but sometimes i do...
my protein sources include eggs, a little milk (mildly lactose intolerant) & nuts, but i'm having a difficult time eating 1g of protein per pound of body weight. (i usually get about 0.7g/lb). i've tried whey powder, not crazy about it, prefer whole foods. any help would be appreciated. thanks. i've just finished 4 months of bulking and am trying to lose some body fat now so i can't eat a tonne of nuts & cheese as they're caloric dense.
any help is appreciated. thanks.

dude... your in Van.... fish is easy to come by. Head out to Steveston and get fish right from the boat. Also, turkey this time of the year is easy to find good deals. CL Vancouver had posts for duck that was killed and clean for 20 bucks a bird.

Re: how do i get more protein (preferably not meat)?

To get more protein, you eat more protein sources. Pretty simple. Depending on your tastes and budget, those protein sources include, in no particular order:

beef, pork, chicken, lamb, veal, rabbit, turkey, duck, game hens, goose, deer, elk, wild boar, salmon, steelhead, trout, halibut, haddock, cod, crab (King, Dungeness, blue), lobster, clams (too many species to list), mussels (too many species to list), oysters, shrimp, scallops, tuna, mackerel, yellowtail, squid, swordfish, shark, mahi mahi, herring, sardines, and that's just off the top of my head. Google for longer lists of edible fish, shellfish, and land animals.

If you won't eat any of those, yeah, you're pretty much stuck with eggs, protein powder, and vegetable proteins.

Sorry.

Katherine

Stop worrying, if you're eating 0.7gPRO/lb/d (1.54gPRO/kg/d) you're already getting all the protein you need.

just curious, are hemp seeds like flax seeds in that they have to be ground to be digested? and if so, then is it better to buy hulled hemp seeds, or un-hulled and then grind them in a coffee grinder? thanks.

Try a pea protein supplement. It is vegan and typically has about 20+g of protein per serving.

I've never read anything like that on the sites that sell them. I dont know personally as I've never bought un-hulled seeds.
