Squats and rest during the set

I'm doing a progressive strength training workout, basically starting strength, and have made some nice gains. My question is, for squats, i'm still progressing, however, as it's getting very heavy for me, i find that i need to take 3, 4, sometimes 5 breathes inbetween my last few reps, definitely before the 5th rep, usually before the 4th....Should I keep progressing? I don't lose my form and it's not an overly long rest, but at least 3 breathes. The weight is getting any lighter resting on my shoulders for those few seconds! I've watched some of the 20 rep squat vid's and i definitely don't rest as much as that, but i wanted to see if i was cheating in some way by taking an extra few breathes at the end. By the end of the set, i'm totally winded too.

Re: Squats and rest during the set

I think that's pretty standard once the weight starts to get heavy. Is for me at least. Onward and upward.

Re: Squats and rest during the set

As long as the weight is on your shoulders it is not rest. Keep progressing, you are fine
