5:42 mile!!!

The other day we had a somewhat rest day or what we call at our gym a technique day. Our warm up was a one mile run so i decided to time it and see how fast i could run the mile if i pushed really hard because during murph last week i ran like a 7:40 mile being conservative so i was curious. So i ran with a stopwatch and when i got done hit the stop button and couldn't beleive what i saw, 5:42. I showed one of our trainers and he was ecstatic. Some of my friends who do it with me didn't beleive me. The fastest mile i ever ran was in HS when i was in great shape for football and it was around 6:20 if i remember right. So i would say crossfit has done wonders for me so far and i have only been doing it a little over a month.

Re: 5:42 mile!!!

I am 6 foot and right at 200 lbs. and i have not actually done my CFT yet cause i have only been crossfitting about a month and we have not done it whle i have been there. the only two milestone workouts i have done are Fran which i had 7:20 in but that was when i first started so i am sure its way down now and murph which i had 52:23 on but the heat down here made it really bad i started cramping on my last mile. But if i had to guess i should be around 175 to 180 on my shoulder press and hopefully the 400's on dead lift and squat but not totally sure. but i have steadily been improving and posting some of the best times in the gym so things are looking good and thanks for the compliments

Re: 5:42 mile!!!

My 13-year old ran the 1600 in 5:28 last month...5th in the county T&F championships but he weighs a lot less than you. That is a VERY STOUT time. Congratulations.

Re: 5:42 mile!!!

Congrats! That time is AWESOME! I have been told that I have "bad running form". Do you have any tips that I could try? I'd love to get close to a 6:00 mile!

Re: 5:42 mile!!!

Well i am no certified anything in fitness but i have heard a million different techniques for running faster miles and two miles but what i do is what i call a stride run. The stride which you probably already know is just a full extension of the legs but not fast like a sprint so what i do is do a stride all the way through the mile and at the last stretch give it everything i have for about the last 2-300 meters. To me its more in your mind and heart that really technique. Try working on full extension of the legs during the run. i found that it was not that much more work but your covering more ground with each step.
