Is Flax Seed Fat?

For the Zone would flax seed be considered strictly in the fat block category? I did not find it on the list of zone foods or in the search function. Sorry if it has been asked before.

Check it on FitDay and you can calculate blocks.

Divide carb grams by 9 and protein grams by 7. I've been getting better at mental math division thanks to fitday.

Re: Is Flax Seed Fat?

Thank you both for your replies. I am familiar with how many grams of fat and carbohydrates you need for each block. What I am trying to figure out is flax seed considered a fat OR carbohydrate according to the zone? It's macronutrient value has all P/C/F, but I am not sure which category it falls under. Any other zoners use flax seed?

Re: Is Flax Seed Fat?

It's a fat. The carbs are nearly all fiber, and the protein is negligible compared to the fat.

Since it's around 4.5 grams of fat per serving (2 tablespoons) that makes it either 3 blocks or 1.5 blocks of fat, depending on how much fat is in your protein source.

Re: Is Flax Seed Fat?

As an aside, you can grind up flax and use it as a butter substitute in many recipes, or go 1 tbsp flax to 3 tbsp water and use it as an egg substitute.
