Lower Back tightness during Deadlifts

I did a workout today with 5 rounds of 225# deadlifts. I made it to the 3rd round and felt a lot of, what I presume is, muscle tightness in my lower back. I used a foam roller on my lower back and that helped alleviate some of the tightness. Is this something I should be concerned about, or will this eventually go away with increasing strength?

Re: Lower Back tightness during Deadlifts

Could be a form issue, do you have anyone that can check you while you are lifting?

Other than that, a lot of people find doing sumo style deadlifts takes a lot of pressure off the lower back. And a belt helps, of course. Or you can just scale by lowering the reps/weight.

Re: Lower Back tightness during Deadlifts

Doesn't sound like anything too much to worry about... muscles probably started cramping because of the hypoxia from isometric contraction

If there was pain and it strained there may be a problem but doesn't sound like it.

Re: Lower Back tightness during Deadlifts

yea, no pain here...just tightness that becomes uncomfortable if I don't roll it out and rest a little. I'm guessing foam rolling will be the most effective at combating this?

Re: Lower Back tightness during Deadlifts

Get your hip flexors too while you're at it. Had the same issue and loosening up the hips has really helped.
