Bumper Plate Smell

I don't know if this topic has been covered here before or not, I am new to the board and couldn't find anything on it...

So I just got some new rubber bumpers from Wichita Falls, and they are great, and I knew there would be a rubber smell, but my home gym is inside my house and I cant even keep the weights inside, because the rubber smell is really strong and my house now smells like a tire factory...

Any suggestions on getting rid of the smell? Is this possible?

Re: Bumper Plate Smell

The smell will eventually go away. I don't remember how long it took though.

Re: Bumper Plate Smell

Leave them in the garage (or outside, covered from rain/snow) for a couple of days.

Re: Bumper Plate Smell

I gave mine a quick rub with some citrus based degreaser and that seemed to work.

Re: Bumper Plate Smell

Sweet. Thanks guys, I will try that out...I was a little worried. They are sitting in my garage right now, and it is pretty bad. Hopefully it will mellow out shortly.

Re: Bumper Plate Smell

I can certainly understand why someone wouldn't want that smell, as overpowering as it can be.

I've always kind of liked that rubber smell. But then again, its not thru my whole house, either!
