Re: kindle ... anyone?

No personal experience but my sister has one and raves about it. To the point where my mom wants one know too. I know a couple of other people that have them and really like them. I'm considering picking one up.

Re: kindle ... anyone?

my sister and her fiance each have one and they love them.

i hear that barnes & noble's version is better?

personally, if i want to read a book, i'm going to read a book, not stare at a flat screen that doesn't smell like a book, feel like a book, turn pages like a book and above all, prevents you from properly curling up with a book.

i stare at a screen too much during the day.

Re: kindle ... anyone?

I have a kindle, it's totally fine. I just bought an iPad as a gift for a friend and now I totally want to dump my kindle and get the iPad.

Re: kindle ... anyone?

I've got a kindle and I love it. The Nook from Barnes and Noble is a little flashier has no actual additional functionality. Both use E-Ink technology for the reading area. Haven't seen an Ipad. If you like to read the Kindle is like crack laced with fairy wings. Wireless access is built into the purchase price so aside from the (steeply discounted) price of books there's no extra cost out of the box. Holds over a thousand books, battery life is up to two weeks, can USB to a computer if you don't have a 3G signal.

Everyone who reads, when talking about the Kindle, says that they want to hold a book, hear the pages rustle and so on (I did too)...right up until the see and hold a Kindle.

Re: kindle ... anyone?

Completely agree with Casey.

I thought I'd miss hard-copy books, but the Kindle is totally "curl-up-withable," especially if you get one of the protective foldback covers, which adds a bit of weight and (as I like to do with paperbacks) allows you to fold the cover back like a book.

No, it doesn't smell like a book or turn pages like a book, but I love the damned thing. Maybe my favorite purchase of 2009.

How big are they? My eyesight sucks. Plus I do most of my reading on the porcelein throne, so there's no curling up there.

Re: kindle ... anyone?

No kindles in Canada (at least there weren't when my wife wanted one) so she got the Sony e-book thingy. My mom and mother in law have them as well and they all love them. The "electronic paper" screen is quite cool, as it reads like paper, not like reading a computer screen. very cool.

As for size at least on their sony readers you can increase the font size. Don't know about the kindle but would assume you should be able to.

Re: kindle ... anyone?

Yep. Text size on the kindle is unversally scaleable to any level of ability.

Re: kindle ... anyone?

I like what I've seen of the Kindle but I had been laden with consumer electronics. I currently use Stanza on the iPhone and love it. The ability to download free classics from Project Gutenberg is awesome.

I've also tried Wattpad on a BB Curve and it wasn't a bad second.

The iPad is nice but I think it's a little heavy for regular reading.
