Sinus Headaches

My whole life I have been getting sinus headaches. Sometimes they are just an aggravating ache. Other times, though, I feel like my teeth are going to pop out of my head. I've been to doctors when they get bad, and usually they just prescrbie some sort of decongestant, anti biotics (if there's and infection) and some sort of pain reliever.

One doctor suggested drilling a hole in my face to relieve the pressure.

A friend of mine recommended a Neti pot. I bought one from the local Walgreens. I have been using it 2 times daily for the past week. While it gives me some temporary relief, the congestion still comes back. I'm guessing that the mucus () is working it's way out of my head, and I'll still get some congestion while it's moving out.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Will my congestion eventually lessen?

Re: Sinus Headaches

Akin to the Neti - try Neil Med. I have super chronic allergic and non-allergic rhinitis.

Swimming also helps a ton - sorry to those who take my lane after me

Re: Sinus Headaches

So that's why my sinuses haven't been bothering me as much lately! I've been swimming since late Jan a few times a week. I wasn't sure if it was the improved diet, CF or what... glad you said that.
I used to just about every day have post nasal drip and frequent major sinus headaches. Guess I gotta stay regular with the swimming!

Re: Sinus Headaches

On the other hand I have a friend who had major sinus problems. She had her's drilled out - or whatever they do. And has never looked back. She was always sick and now - hardly ever!

I just wish I could get my SO to do it. He has the worst deviated septum.

Re: Sinus Headaches

I am considering (actually, my wife is considering forcing me into) getting the procedure where they balloon out (term?) the sinuses - a la angioplasty.

I've got a chronically stuffed nose, doc said "oh, it's a deviated septum, we can fix that", went in for the surgery, nothing. I was ****ed... I hear the same thing from most people who have surgery (rotator cuff, knees, etc...) So naturally I'm very leery about the whole sinus drain surgery thing too.

Re: Sinus Headaches

I suffered deabilitating sinus headaches on a weekly basis. Dr. prescribed steroid prednisone
which I didnt like the side effects one bit. I went out on a limb and tried a Acupuncturist/Traditional Chinese Medicine. I havnt had a headache other than something I would call "normal" in months. So yeah I would recommend laying on a table with needles sticking out of your body.
