sweaty hands - no grip/friction

Looking for some recommendations on either grips to buy, tape to use or anything else....

The loss of grip has happened on a few occasions the past few weeks during workouts in this summer time heat. The sweatier I get during the WODs the more and more I have to fight to keep my grip on the pull up bars and barbells, particularly during repetitive snatches. The time spent dealing with this is time lost not moving.

I chalk up my hands, pull-up bar and barbell (when used) like a mofo before I start and towards the end I always run into this problem and it's time to do something about it.

Re: sweaty hands - no grip/friction

I tried several things but for pullups, batting gloves worked best for me.

Re: sweaty hands - no grip/friction

For bar work, don't wear gloves. If you sweat too much, like I do, get sweat bands for your wrists. I use them and they work great. Then you can chalk up without it turning to paste. For other work, football receiver gloves work great...climbing rope, high rep pull-ups, etc. I used to wear batting gloves but I sweated so much that they became soaked. When they dried, they never worked like before.

Re: sweaty hands - no grip/friction

I keep a roll of paper towels or just a regular towel close by to wipe my hands and face then quickly rechalk

Re: sweaty hands - no grip/friction

Thanks everyone for the replies!

I think I'm going to try a combination of sweat bands, towel and gloves on occasion. Going to try taping the hands (palms) too for those long 20 min AMRAP and Chippers. I did something similar when I did Murph and it worked pretty well, it also wasn't 90+ degrees in the box that day so we'll see.

Re: sweaty hands - no grip/friction

For barbell work, you should use the hook grip. That should make the grip a lot easier, once you master it.

I've got the Rogue gymnastics grips and have had good results using them when my hands are sweaty. Recommend them for pull-ups.

I wear sweat bands around my wrists (Just old school type) and im a chalk whore. I use a ton of chalk and never lose my grip. Deadlifted 455 last week with no problems at all.
