How many ring pull ups and ring dips to sub for muscle ups

I've seen different recommendations for substitues for muscle-ups. I have rings in my garage, but I haven't yet managed a muscle-up. The FAQ says:

Quote:
Most common substitution is 3 pullups +3 dips, or 4 pullups +4 dips.
... but I think that refers to bar pullups and paralled dips. What do people usually sub if they're doing ring pullups and ring dips.

If you're already using rings, I would suggest using a band of some sort since your lack of muscle-up could be simply technique and to work towards MU that way.

Re: How many ring pull ups and ring dips to sub for muscle ups

Hey all,

For the Jason WOD, I ended-up doing jumping muscle-ups, with the bottom of the rings at the height of the top of my head, and really concentrating on technique.

I then rested a couple of hours, raised the rings to muscle-up height, and managed a muscle-up!!

Very happy with that!

Doing the whole workout with jumping MUs really helped. I was able to feel how my chest was supposed to get through the rings.

I second that suggestion. Definitely go with jumping muscle-ups.
