GHD Situps vs. GHD Static Holds

I was thinking about the explanation that GHD situps & Back extensions are one of the few area we isolate movements due to the unsurpassed stimulus today and wondered if I would get the same or better effect from GHD static holds.

Specifically, hold a bumper plate on my chest or overhead and lockout at parallel. This involves intense effort to stabilize the midline which is what our "core" is for. I'm going to try this myself but wonder if the carryover to sport (Crossfit) would be greater than GHD situps. Any thoughts/warnings on this?

i typically start clients with holds and then move on to dynamic movements.

remember, the GHD sit up falls best under 'gymnastics' rather than 'weightlifting'. The idea is control, grace and work capacity. Doing more reps in less time with the sit up is the way to go. You're 'stabilization' needs are being better met with heavy Front&Overhead Squats as well as deadlifts etc.
