Re: The Official Smolov Support Thread

I'm no longer pretty young though I think I am. That was 10+ years ago.

I was coming from Squat programming that was 3x a week. BS 2x, FS 1x but fairly low volume. 3x5, 5x3, 3x3, daily max single, double or triple and sometimes back off volume squats at 3x5, 5x3, 3x3@80-90% of the daily 1rm.

So basically half the volume of squat reps. And note, I only got through the first day M of Smolov Jr before crapping out. Last week was because I didn't sleep well and I ended up having to rehab my hip but this week it's fine.

I will try full Smolov perhaps in the fall and see if that goes over better. I think because it has a more gradual build-up it may be something that might be doable, especially if I go at 90% instead of 100% to calculate off.

I've heard of people having success with it, that were not using restoratives but then again they were about 10 years younger than myself. So I'm not sure it's doable for someone who is techically a "Master"s Lifter.

Re: The Official Smolov Support Thread

I think most of it is mental. I made it through Smolov without missing a rep, but I only lasted 9 weeks into Madcow before I simply had to stop and focus on something else besides squatting.

I'm way to busy these days doing other stuff, and my mental focus isn't where it should be.

When I was running Smolov, I would literally spend the entire mentally preparing me for hell. It was insane.

The program works wonders. I play a lot of sports, and ever since doing Smolov, there are so many situations throughout the 'game' where I notice physical improvement.

Great job. That's what I'm aiming for...

Here's my 8x4 of today. That's the 7th set. I felt really good today, If the 10x3 goes up like that tomorrow I might add 10 lbs for the 3rd week (I started the cycle 2 weeks late).

In the 2nd week right now and hit 8x4x150, up from 8x4x140 last week
May try for 160kg on the 4's next week, but we'll see how it feels!

Re: The Official Smolov Support Thread

Smolov Jr Week 2 Day 4, 10x3 @260 lbs

Felt good, even though I was sore today.

Then, somehow (I really don't know how), I went on to snatch 175 (5 lbs PR) and C&J 210 (5 lbs PR)...

Go figure...

Re: The Official Smolov Support Thread

7x5x156kg today (up from 130, 140 the first 2 weeks)

Looking forward to the last 2 squatting sessions this week and then getting my legs back under me!
