question for those of you that regularly win in competition

Lately I've found myself wondering about the psychology of folks that tend to be winners. Or those that regularly acheive tough goals in relatively short periods of time.
Those of you that win often at your competitions what is your thought process during the comp? What are you actually saying to yourself moment to moment? Especially when there is no one else to push you.

Not sure if you listen to CrossFit Radio, but this is a great interview with James Fitzgerald (2007 CrossFit Games champ):

He's very candid about his thought process and pre workout routine for all of his daily WOD's. Essentially, he treats every workout like it's the last day of the Games, putting every ounce of mental and physical energy into it. Like a lot of successful athletes say, winning come game time is 99% attributed to training and preparation habits. As far as his mental state during the WOD's, James has a good line "Focus on what you really want rather than what you fear".
