Exercises Movements, technique & proper execution

I'm going to run through a test week a la the April CrossFit journal after my rest day, and am planning to do the tests without any modifications - but...I haven't yet got a suitable way to max out on the bench. The power rack will solve this eventually, but in the interim, I was curious about the suitablity of using weighted dips in place of the bench.

Any and all opinions are greatly welcomed!

IMO, weighted dips are far superior to bench presses.You utilize the same muscles(chest,shoulders,triceps) in a more athletic manner.You can also get a better range of motion(if you have a healthy set of shoulders) which I always look at as a big plus.They are also an excellent strength exercise.I don't know if anyone here has heard of Marvin Eder, who was a famous lifter back in the 50's, but at a bodyweight of 197ibs, Marvin Eder did a dip with 435ibs.That's what I call strong.Definitely a worthwhile exercise.

I agree with Matt, but a possible solution to the actual testing problem might be a one rep max calculator:

You may have to be a bit conservative to avoid being squashed...but better than nothing perhaps!
