Re: My DIY Outdoor Climbing Tower

The uprights I used are 2 3/8" SH 40. The pipe that the rope and rings and from is 1 7/8" SH 40. Lastly I made the pull up bars from1 3/8" Sh 40. It's fairly sturdy considering, however if you can afford it, larger diameter pipe would not be bad for the uprights.

The other picture shows my neutral grip pull up station with dip attachment

The only things that costed money was the rings and the rope. I got all the schedule 40 pipe for free from work. It was extra stuff that was torn out of a prison years ago. I had trouble with the rope climbs at my last Spartan Race, so I decided I needed to figure out a way to hang a rope at home. I figured while I was at it I should also make it so I could hang rings high enough to practice muscle ups. I'm doing good on the rope, but I still have a long way to go on the muscle ups. Overall I love this thing. Its so much fun!

I want to make one of these so damn bad, but the costs are just going through the ROOF to try and make it. hopes and dreamed effectively dashed.

Maybe with some sturdier piping, you can weld some j-hooks on to it also, one pair up high one pair down low. That way you can squat/press/bench on it too. You'll need to pour concrete in front of the rack for that though, so you have the sturdy base.

Re: My DIY Outdoor Climbing Tower

I' looking to build out something as well. My problem is 2 fold.

1 - There is no level ground available
2 - I live in TX and the ground is well... terrible/rocky.

I think I'm going to build out a free standing one like this and hope for the best.

Might be good info for someone else as well. The Kee Klamp structuring is what is used by the spartan race for many items too so we know it'll hold up to abuse.
