For what it's worth, in Olympic Weightlifting, Greg Everett suggests 4-5 reps at 80-90% or 2-3 reps at 90-100% of the lift max. His reason for these numbers is to avoid sacrificing speed and positioning. I imagine that these numbers are for "mature" lifters so perhaps someone with underdeveloped Oly lifts could go a bit higher.
