Anything is fine really. Technique will help you get an extra few reps when your kipping fails though. In any case, make sure you aren't getting one arm up at a time as that will become a bad habit.

For metcon workouts kipping is fine and even preferred as you know with pullups.... same for muscle ups. I would, however, advise people to learn the technique because it helps vastly with any of the kinds of muscle ups you will face both on a bar, on rings or on a ledge like in Parkour climbing up obstacles. :-)
