Neal - No, the difference is not so much in the knees but the relationship between the torso and the kettlebell. With the side press you stick the hip out a bit and press the weight upward and away from you. Your body is still and the weight moves up. With the bent press the start is the same but now the weight stays in the same spot and the body is pressed away from the weight. If you are familiar with the Burgener warmup picture the pressing snatch balance where the weight stays in the same place but the lifter descends below it while pressing. In that same way the bent press finds you seeking the earth rather than the bell seeking the sky.
