Can you simply hang from the bar? If so, try doing simply shoulder activation exercises at bottom of the hang (going from passive hang to active hang) as well as use a stool to get to top pullup position and hold at top as long as you can and fight it all the way down (without collapsing - that would straing the shoulders and surgery site)
