Will it work for novices (experience or recovery based definition)? Sure, probably great if you have a good coach.

Will it work for better than SS for someone with zero experience, no knowledge/context of the sport of powerlifting, poor movement form, doesn't have a coach, is doing this on their own starting with a 135# or lower back squat in a commercial gym? I doubt it. SS is start to finish what to do for a newbie, including form in layman terms.
