Josh, it's not the stability factor of a straight bar vs rings, it's the pullup path. That path tends to be easier on the shoulder and easier to perform.
Go back to the 1st post. Pronated pullups hurt, supinated hurt way less. 5%. Can do rows.
I generally do and train (as in my gymnasts) ring pullups in a neutral grip though at times the grip will be pronated. It's a little easier on the shoulders.
