I hope this doctor is a diabetic specialist because it it so important to get a proper diagnosis.
Your morning levels sound normal to me and will vary due to many factors, what you ate the day before, how much you ate, how much fat you ate (pizza effect) as fat capsulates sugar and delays it getting into your blood stream, how you work out and so much more..... if you need to **** often, feel tired and so on.
Diabetes is not based just on your morning sugar glucose levels, there is so much more involved.
I know this because my oldest son who is 20 developed diabetes type 1 just over a year ago and we have learned an awful lot very fast through doctors and dieticians.
