for a while i had the machine set at 9 because i had no idea, but have recently set it at 3. it seems like the harder you pull the more resistance you get.

i've also noticed that you can emphasize different body parts, say, use your legs more, etc.

so i guess i'll just stik to what i've been doing because it feels like it's working and that seems to be the biggest determining factor.
