Re: Just confirming the popping of knees..

A common popping in the lateral part of the knee very near the edge of the knee cap is caused by a tight patellar retinaculum, which is like several layers of saran like ligamentous tissue and bands in it called the patellofemoral ligaments. Often not painful but easily reproducable with deeper squats. Usually this can be caused by tight structures and some mis-alignment of the patella. No pain is good but work with your alignment of your feet and knees. Try changing to a slightly turned out foot position to lessen it. repeated popping can be like over strumming a guitar string and eventually causing irritation and pain.
Also a PT can show you how to tape your knee with kinseotape or leukotape to help better align your knee.
