I doubt the hot tub does much if anything for recovery, but personally I love soaking because it's fun and relaxing. If I'm going to soak after lifting, or do anything else other than eat right away, I just bring some protein powder in a cup to mix with water, and I have a banana also. This way I don't need to be thinking about my post workout meal at a time when I'd rather be enjoying whatever it is that I'm doing. I'll have a proper meal within maybe an hour or two, but I don't like obsessing until then - it's not very relaxing thinking my muscles are eating themselves for dinner.
