How far out did you all start the plan to affiliate? And what "timeline" did you use prior to the opening of your affiliate? I'm in the service and have about 4-ish years left but am looking to get a "cushy govt. part time job" and open a CrossFit gym when I get out. I'm currently working on saving for a Level 1 cert when I get back from deployment, I'm also trying to finagle the MWR (Morale Welfare & Recreation) people to host a Cert on base when I return, so maybe I won't have to foot that bill. I've also started purchasing gear for myself and am planning on getting enough to be able to train 4 guys at a time while we are in Iraq. I've been reading ridiculous amounts of posts here trying to get an idea of what I should be aiming for. Will probably get the Level 2 cert done within a two year time frame. What sort of "schooling" other than CrossFit should I be looking at, essentially for "validation" for those people who don't know what CrossFit is.

Things I have:
passion for training/teaching; particularly CrossFit
understanding of the fundamental exercises of CrossFit
understanding of CrossFit principles
ability to manage diverse people

General Ideas So Far: (not necessarily in order)
Lvl 1 & 2; and Nutrition certs
getting a cert/assoc. in small business management
getting a cert/assoc. in exercise science
getting a cert in the alphabet soup that is personal training (what is the general thought on this?)
look into getting quotes for insurance (not too big a deal as they will change in the next couple of years, but get a general idea)
work on coaching (good thing I've got 30 Soldiers to practice on)
accumulating quality gear (to take some of the sting out of the initial financial outlay)

I'm sure there are plenty of people who've just stepped off the cliff and made it work. I'd like to get as much information as possible, without suffering from "paralysis from overanalysis" Thanks in advance for all your input.
