Why no gears? I don't get it.

I'm going to preface what I say with this caveat: Maybe I am bitter about the fixie kids running around town a ****ing off drivers or doing Critical Mass that only disrupts traffic. Maybe I think it is silly to want a "track bike" because it's the cool thing to do, or maybe I think that riding sans a brake is dangerous and/or really terrible on the knees.
So as you can gather, I'm not a fan of the fixed gear fad. Track Bikes have a home. It's on the
velodrome(track).(wfs)
I fully intend to own a fixed gear bike when I take up
Pursuit(wfs), but I will ride it on the track without being pretentious, thinking I'm, cool, or thinking I'm a more pure cyclist.
Fixed gear road bikes do have application, but a front brake makes sense.
I don't mind the bikes, but the attitude of many riding them annoys the hell out of me.
