Reading that story reminds me how potent of a drug CrossFit and its kin are. Left to their own devices, a lot of very capable people don't have the perspective or experience to keep it as a mostly positive influence in their lives. I feel bad that she never had a coach good enough to reign her in prior to meeting Rippetoe, but glad that she finally did. Training for CrossFit is hard because it's open ended and there's a lot of opportunity to overtrain and disparage oneself for coming up short some days, compounded by the fact that it sings a sweet siren song for self-punitive/masochistic types with sins to repent.
"I learned to train with purpose rather than for atonement."
That told the whole story.
Good to hear she made it out in one piece.
