meat, fish, and olive oil are cornerstones of the paleo diet and healthy eating in general, even if you dont want to do all-out paleo. whey is arguable. its not paleo, but it helps if you have trouble getting enough protein in the day from whole food sources, and it does digest and get to your muscles faster after a workout.

the other things you mentioned are what you want to cut out to see a real difference.
