Is it analogous to jumping and squatting...seems more power is actually developed doing weighted pull-ups vice the catch release pulls...Both Jumping and these catch/release are explosive exercises, so maybe you can incorporate those different types of muscle movements on the pull-up the same way you do with jumping vs squatting?
