Foam roller - good for cracking my back. Light SMR for the most part compared to smaller tools.
While hands on is great, it's nice to have tools to send an athlete to go work on themselves.
1. This protects you the coach, especially in gymnastics.
2. This uses your time better so you can be spotting higher level skills instead of just giving them busy work. I'm sure something similar could be said for other sports.
It's just easier to you use a tool in some cases that your hands. Also, you can ask many masseuses to the issues that their hands and body get tired over time.
