Re: What do you think of the FDA Nazis?

This is a really bizarre post, especially considering that "you" weren't even the one I was responding to. Have you ever heard of a figurative "you", as in "someone", not meaning you in particular?...

Re: What do you think of the FDA Nazis?

Is this politics if you can't buy raw milk, supplements or if your children are forced into chemotherapy, that destroys the very immune system that is necessary to fight cancer?

Are you people...

Re: 28 days in ketosis

Watch some Dr. Attia presentations. Fat adaptation dramatically moves the max fat burning threshold from 65% of VO2max for carb adapted athletes to 85% for fat adapted athletes.

What do you think of the FDA Nazis?

I guess from the title you know what I think, but what prompted me to start this thread was the video posted by Dr. Mercola about the FDA.

Re: 28 days in ketosis

Good point -- may never need the fuel tank. But when our government spends us all into oblivion and we are running in the woods, trying to catch the next meal... :)

We do not allow political...

Re: 28 days in ketosis

Can't argue with that. Our enzymes and metabolic pathways are highly adaptable. But I'd rather be adapted to burning fat than glucose. This way my fuel tank is 100 times larger and my spare tire...

Re: 28 days in ketosis

Why stop if it's getting you the results? Once you transitioned to fat metabolism, its a new brave world. I feel like **** when I go back to carbs, even for a day.

Re: 28 days in ketosis

You don't need to track calories, I don't, but you will get a pretty good idea when to stop eating at night to create a small caloric deficit. You will burn fat in keto at a rapid rate if you do WOD...

Re: 28 days in ketosis

This is a valid point. One of the reasons why keto can fail to get you a six-pack is surplus or even equilibrium of calories. You still need a caloric deficit. Keto-adaptation (4-6 weeks is...

Re: What can low-carb (ketosis) do for you?

Note that low-calorie ketogenic diet is not what is being discussed. I am assuming we are talking about nutritional ketosis which assumes the normal caloric intake.

Re: What can low-carb (ketosis) do for you?

It is amazing that a simple truth is so hard for people to accept. Higher insulin, which is caused by dietary carbs, creates asymmetry between fat burn and fat storage, by blocking fat burn and...

Re: What can low-carb (ketosis) do for you?

PS.

There are three phosphate transports into cells (to make ATP), creatine (1 rep max) , anaerobic (100m sprint) and aerobic (everything else). The only one that may take a hit in keto is...

Re: What can low-carb (ketosis) do for you?

I was surprised too that Darryl linked these. Maybe he is giving keto a second look? :) But to answer, your question about doing it correctly, for me, 95% of all the questions were answered in the...

Re: What can low-carb (ketosis) do for you?

Bill, when a study talks about high-fat diets, it's useless, for someone who is in the state of nutritional ketosis (NK). This has been discussed at length in the "JumpstartMD Full Interview with...

Re: What can low-carb (ketosis) do for you?

I guess I have to now :)

Here is the thing. For 19 years (from age 27 to 46), I was struggling to stay in shape on a "balanced diet", but would gain about 1.5 lb per year. Then for the next 13 years...

Re: What can low-carb (ketosis) do for you?

First of olive is mostly monounsaturated. Second, yes polyunsaturated fats are considered pro-inflammatory. The theory behind this is that we are made mostly of mono and saturated fats, so we know...

Re: What can low-carb (ketosis) do for you?

Remarkably, all these (and then some), questions are answered in this "JumpstartMD Full Interview with Drs. Stephen Phinney & Jeff Volek" interview. It's long but very...

Re: Trying out a new diet idea

Where did you get the 8000 calories? Elite marathoners burn no more than 1400 kcal per hour. That's under 3000 kcal for the race. Of course if you weigh 300 pounds, shuffling for 5 hours maybe you...

Re: Trying out a new diet idea

The average glycogen stores for untrained people are around 2000 kcal total with about 400 kcal in the liver and another 100 kcal of glucose in the blood stream.

It's often confusing because many...

Re: What can low-carb (ketosis) do for you?

Go to PubMed and search for low-glycogen training. Here is one sample:

How rare is Rhabdomyolysis

Sorry if this has been covered.

I know one case in on our gym. How worried should I be? Any data on CrossFit's susceptibility? Muscle soreness is a part of life for everybody...

Re: Trying out a new diet idea

That's an example of a classic generalization and a self-fulfilling prophecy, which is being repeated ad nauseum on bodybuilding and crossfit forums.
