Re: Home Gym, what should I get next?

Rings, no question.
Pair of 25lb bumpers.
Weightlifting shoes.
Something to cover the mirrors...

Re: "barefoot" running shoes

I wear a 4E and vibrams actually fit quite well. I'd find a place to try some on.

Re: Wide shoe options?

I wear a 9.5 4E and am pretty happy with my Do-wins. Not going to walk around in them, but hey, they're weightlifting shoes.

WOD posting time

Hi, maybe this is a dumb question, but...

Is the WOD auto-posted at 8pm west coast, 11pm east coast now?

It seems like that's when it appears regardless of "posted at xx by lauren"

Beer and Burpees

Anyone planning on celebrating St Patrick's like this?

Hope the shirt on the main site inspires...

Re: Weightlifting shoes for wide feet

I wear 9.5 4E New Balance shoes usually, and the 9.5 (43 I think) Do-wins are what work for me. It's not like you're going to go running in them or anything. The suede feels like it'll adapt...

Re: Burpees - How high do you jump?

In my opinion, clapping will mean you get faster at clapping, not that you'll hit a height. Now if you want to get faster at clapping, by all means...

A buddy and me did some WOD with burpees while...

Re: Weird Stuff You've Learned From Crossfit

How about combining the workouts and drinking white russians?

I know what I'm doing this weekend...

Re: Weird Stuff You've Learned From Crossfit

How about...

10 Burpees
1 Shot of Tequila
Max rounds in evening (no puking)

...and if you're ever in Boston, Sunset Cantina likewise has more than 50 Tequilas (though Sunset Grill beats that with...

Re: Anyone own a reverse hyper?

You could also use a pommel horse without the pommels on it. Rather than reverse hypers they're usually called hugging the twinkies...

Re: Virgin...there, I said it...

Proper coaching will be the fastest way to learn. The World Class coaching DVDs are helpful. The two variables on O-lifts are where the weight starts, and where it's received. Power snatch is...

Re: Torso Length and Squatting

6'2" 30" inseam.

Paradoxically you may be winking due to a lack of rigidity. Rip recommends supermans to get the feel for a rigid lower back, do that and try to maintain it. If you've got...

Re: chest exercise, not bench press

If you don't like your affiliate's bench setup, I'd suggest doing bench on their GHD. Essentially it's a benchless press, using either dumbbells, or kettlebells. There's a video somewhere on the "gym...

Re: Shoes-Running-Crossfit

I tried on 41s, I think that may be as small as they go, though there may be overlap with women's sizes below that.

Re: The Hook Grip

I use the hook grip when grip/forearm tension could possibly throw off my form.

In O-lifting I really try to focus on pulling with my hips, arms like strings, and a hook grip lets me keep my arms...

Re: Squat Bar Position - Shoulder Pain

It took me a few workouts to get used to the new bar position. Took my traps a few weeks to get used to squatting high too. Anything new will take some time to accommodate. Then again, as Veronica...

Re: Diabetic Dude's Success

What are your blocks like? I'm really curious how limited your carb intake is if you're taking no insulin for meals.

Re: Starting "Starting Strength"

Yeah, I'll chime in with another "what Victor said"

The point of the starting strength program is starting. You want to start a little light if anything, and then make progress. Starting light means...

Re: Blood to the head in HSPUs

Yeah, I would take your time getting used to being inverted. I made the mistake of pounding out half a dozen HSPU when I finally got a decent handstand (rather than a press to handstand which was all...

I'm a big fan of the Troy muscle clamp collars for o-lifting. They're quick, and they've held up pretty well for me.

I have to say the beauty of starting strength is the simplicity. Straightforward barbell exercises, using the simplest possible linear programming.

I made these and they work great, but I have to say that real straps are about $20, and the rings you can buy for $80 are pretty amazing.

I just got a pair of elite rings and couldn't be happier....
