Re: Pullup Progression

I personally don't think weights are necessary. There are really great progressions without weights. For example, pull ups chest to bar, it will be a while before you can do 12 of those....

Re: Behind the Neck Press

you're over complicating things, go out there and do the exercise, but like you said don't use too much weight too quickly. in my experience with these when the weights start getting heavy for you,...

Re: Ring Strength 18 Feb

turn out rings at top of bulgarian dip. in support try to always turn out the rings. backwards roll to hang (what you did) is easy, backwards roll to support is much harder.

Re: Built like a badass program?

Looks like a solid program, warm up, little dynamic work, max effort, some accessories, finish with metcon...

Re: Broad jump vs. Vertical jump

THis is sort of a silly question, so you got silly answers. Broad jump and vertical jump are basically the same in that you are exploding from a standstill, therefore bounding and sprinting...

Re: Rings Routine for critique...

Id lower the rings as much as possible to get in the press to shoulder stand, it's really important to have a press element in the routine. good job though, your form is great for a non-gymnast.

Re: Please critique my workout plan.

your goals are not only vague and over-broad, but mutually exclusive.
no one here can help you until you fix your goals.

Re: paralette training?'s

do some static handstand holds, maybe negatives HSPU.

basically everything youre gonna do on them derives from the L-sit (support position) and handstand.

your first major goal should probably be...

Re: When to do strength WOD

Be careful with doing 2 a days, you will need to take rest weeks more frequently with the high volume and intensity seen most often during double training daily sessions. A lot of times your body...

Re: Performance Standards

I don't see you complaining about how much easier EVERYTHING else is for shorter people. Everything weightlifting and everything gymnastics strength is far easier for shorter-limbed people!

Re: Video: Mike Boyle teaches an awkward hang snatch

Re: Video: Mike Boyle teaches an awkward hang snatch

THe goal isn't always to squat more or to get stronger in some general way. Elite athletes need highly specialized training.

Re: Skill Standards for Building Strong, Useful, Adaptable Athletes

Except the NBA tests running and standing vertical leaps :welcome:

And to think that these guys aren't capable of squatting 400lbs 1RM is pretty silly in my opinion, theyre professional athletes...

Re: Video: Mike Boyle teaches an awkward hang snatch

I REALLY like the bulgarian split squat (as well as the pistol and the shrimp), if you guys haven't done them and aren't afraid of trying, I suggest you try it out. They hit the entire leg and glute...

Re: Skill Standards for Building Strong, Useful, Adaptable Athletes

 You don't know what you're talking about. A standing vertical jump is almost exactly equivalent to squat/weight ratio. The only way to even get to 40 inches vertical is 2.5-3x bodyweight back...
