Re: International Medieval Combat Federation

I hope everyone enjoyed the entertainment at the CrossFit Games. The feedback we got ranged from "pretty neat" to "freakin awesome," so we're calling that a win. At least no one that hated us cared...

Re: International Medieval Combat Federation

Re: International Medieval Combat Federation

Well, there's one way to find out if your tactics are sound. Give me your location and I'll put you in touch with the closest fight club. We're always looking for new fighters, and effective...

Re: International Medieval Combat Federation

Here's a video from a fan that does a good job of representing the whole tournament. Somebody's been to film school.

Re: International Medieval Combat Federation

A fighter is out for the match if he falls. Basically any "third point" beyond the two feet. Also, losing a chunk of your armor, having a helmet come off, or a serious rules infraction like hacking...

International Medieval Combat Federation

Since our little sport keeps popping up on CrossFit media, I thought I'd post some information so it isn't such a mystery. In essence we're reviving old medieval tournament fighting with blunted...

Re: Jogging vs. Walking for Recovery

I'm looking for evidence to support the original statement. The burden of proof is on the claim.

Jogging vs. Walking for Recovery

During the games the announcer (Everett?) noted that Matt Chan was jogging back to the rope after pushing the football-ish sled, and that it was better for his recovery than walking.

Can anyone...

Re: shoes for Cross Fit?

A note about the NB MX20: they don't have a vibram sole. I've found them to be great for just about everything CrossFit, EXCEPT rope climbs. Sliding down a rope will hack up the bottom of the MX20s...

Re: Fighter Gone Bad

I let this log languish over the last few months, mainly because I didn't have any defined goals. Now that the year has turned, I'm going to get back to it. Also, I'll be working in a 5/3/1 cycle...

Re: Need to Vent

Consider that you're probably going to out live all your friends and associates. Just smile, nod, and ask them if you can have their stuff.

Re: Fighter Gone Bad

Put simply, you lose when you receive what we call a "telling blow" to the head or body. Each participant determines when they've been beaten. In effect, the loser gives victory to the winner. To...

Re: New Balance MX20

I used their online form and got a response the next day. After a few questions they gave me a file to print out for the mailing label. Back in the box, taped it up, in the mail.

Re: New Balance MX20

They fell apart in the same way a block of cheddar falls apart when dragged across a cheese grater. Is it because the soles are not Vibram? I don't know, but I wouldn't recommend rope climbs in...

Re: New Balance MX20

Quick word of caution on the MX20s: rope climbs. Sliding down the corrugated surface of the rope even a few times tore the lightweight sole of these shoes to shreds.

To their credit, NB is sending...

Re: Fighter Gone Bad

I'm approaching the four month mark of my CrossFit life, and I think I hit an important milestone. Yesterday's WOD had us doing sets of 15 deadlifts (among other things) scaled relative to our 1RM...

Learning the power clean. When I get the form right it's surprisingly easy. I rarely get the form right.

Power Clean 145#

Back Squat 185#
Shoulder Press 95#
Deadlift 205#

Fighter Gone Bad

On March 29 I walked up to the box for my CrossFit intro class and saw someone outside on all fours, dry heaving into the grass. At that moment I knew I was at the right place. I mean, I had done...
